School of Art Hosts First Master of Fine Arts Open Studios Tour

The School of Art at the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences invites the public to the first Master of Fine Arts open studios tour, 3:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb.9. Experience a behind-the-scenes look into the graduate students' private studios and gain insight into their artistic process.

The open studios event will be a progressive tour of 32 graduate students currently in the Master of Fine Arts program. Their studio space is a place to develop and create their chosen art medium.

Studio space is often home base for artists and not always known to the public. The physical space is a place where the mysteries and ideas of an artist's process are exposed, transformed and presented, and also serves as a place where actual labor of creation takes place. 

Saturday's event will lift the veil of mystery to showcase the graduates work in progress and completed creations. By sharing these spaces, the community is able to experience graduate students as artists, art theory and process and the Master of Fine Arts program at the School of Art.

Studios will display visual works including ceramics, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture mediums.

The graduate studios are located in four different facilities within the School of Art. Each facility has an open window for guests to leisurely tour studios, there will not be a formal guide or transportation between buildings. The progressive tour schedule is an outline of when each facility is open. 

• 3:30-5 p.m., Sculpture Studio, 744 Hill Ave.
• 4:30-6 p.m., Ceramics Studio, 1580 W. Mitchell St. and Printmaking Studio, 326 Eastern Ave.
• 5:30-7:30 p.m., sUgAR Gallery, 1 E. Center St.

Guests are invited to enjoy refreshments at the last stop, 1 E. Center St.
