Sports Analytics Expert Offers Lectures in March

A specialist in sports analytics research will deliver two public lectures March 12 at the University of Arkansas.

Ceyda Mumcu, an assistant professor in sport management at Connecticut's University of New Haven, is co-editor of Sport Analytics: A Data-Driven Approach to Sport Business and Management.

"We are so excited to welcome Dr. Mumcu to campus. Dr. Mumcu is one of the leading experts on marketing research and analytics in sport. Her book has been sold in 27 countries across every continent," said Sarah Stokowski, a U of A assistant professor in recreation and sport management.

Mumcu's first talk on March 12 will be 8:15-9:15 a.m., discussing sport analytics. From 9:30-10:30 a.m., she will address marketing and sport analytics. Both will be held in the Jerry and Gene Jones Family Student-Athlete Success Center 1229 W Meadows St. on the Fayetteville campus.

Mumcu has years of experience in sport industry as a professional basketball player and a coach at various levels. She played basketball for three professional teams within the Turkish Women's Professional Basketball League from 1996 to 2003. As a member of the U-18 Turkish Women's National Basketball Team, she competed at various stages of the European Women's Basketball Championship.

Mumcu earned a Doctor of Philosophy in sport administration with a minor in quantitative research methods from University of New Mexico. She received a Master of Science in sport management from Middle East Technical University and an M.S. in management of sport industries from the University of New Haven. Earlier she earned a bachelor's in economics from Ankara University. Her work has appeared in several journals.

The university's Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation and Athletic Department are hosting the seminar.
