The ability to access and publish nationwide data will benefit researchers on our campus.

As an Research 1 institution, the University of Arkansas strives to provide new resources for faculty and staff researching topics within their fields.

A new discounted service through Qualtrics Research Services is now being offered by IT Services and Teaching Innovation and Pedagogical Support (TIPS). This collaborative research service is designed to reduce the cost of research while providing added features not currently available to individual Qualtrics users.

By contributing to a secure central fund, faculty, staff and students gain access to expanded features, larger discounts and additional nationwide data that is often difficult to collect. Features of the new program include but are not limited to, survey research panel/sample services, programming, translations, reporting, survey design and methodology.

"Hands down, representative samples are 100 percent more publishable and fundable than small college or community samples lacking diversity and actual representation," said Jacquelyn Mosley, associate professor for the School of Human Environmental Sciences, who has relied on this service for her research. "If I were to do the same study myself, I'd get about 500 college students from our university, and it would likely be harder to publish that data."

Qualtrics provides datasets with a nationwide representation of focus groups, which improves external validity. Additionally, participating researchers have the option to increase the opportunity for undergraduate research.

"By working together, we can reduce the cost of research while also gaining more features that create higher quality research," said Kathryn Zawisza, director of academic technology and innovation. "This program was created to help improve research, increase collaboration, and keep costs down for researchers in order to benefit our campus and help to facilitate our guiding priorities."
