Faculty are invited to learn more about signature research areas and the Chancellor's Fund at a town hall meeting March 8 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Multicultural Center in the Union, Room 403. Speakers will include Dan Sui, vice chancellor for research and innovation; Jim Coleman, provost; and Stacy Leeds, vice chancellor for economic development. These speakers will share details and answer questions about the research areas and the Chancellor's fund.

The University of Arkansas announced three signature research areas in January that distinguish the university and inspire collaboration. These areas are focused on advancing the data revolution, improving health and community vibrancy and innovating for a resilient and sustainable future.

The town hall will also focus on the three funding streams available through the Chancellor's Fund:

  • The Innovation and Collaboration Fund
  • The Commercialization Fund
  • The Gap Fund

The Innovation and Collaboration Fund is accepting proposals through March 12 for its third year of funding. It will award $1 million this year for bold interdisciplinary projects that have not received prior funding.

The Commercialization Fund will award $1 million each year to help propel technologies with strong market potential to commercial readiness. The spring 2019 application period is March 1-31. The Gap Fund will award up to $100,000 to teams that have completed the National I-Corps program and are launching a startup company. Applications for the Gap Fund are accepted on a rolling basis.

The town hall will provide an opportunity for faculty to learn which fund is right for them and find out more about the application process. Lunch will be provided. Registration is required.
