Beverly Edens has provided training for several campus IT teams and departments this year.

During the month of February, more than 3,000 Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones were delivered on campus. In the coming weeks, full calling features will be enabled on these phones as campus numbers begin transferring to the VoIP system.

To help with the transition to VoIP, IT Services has developed several new training sessions. VoIP trainings sessions are offered weekly throughout the spring semester. Participants can choose to attend a one-hour Question and Answer session on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. in the Arkansas Union or an in-depth 90-minute training offered Tuesdays at 3 p.m. in ADSB or Wednesdays at 10 a.m. or 2:30 p.m. in JBHT.

Sign up and learn more about training at voip.uark.edu. All sessions include hands-on training and information about how these new phones integrate with Skype for Business, Microsoft Outlook and more.

Chuck Mitchell, coordinator of professional development and training for IT Services, encourages all phone users to attend a session. "The VoIP system is much more than a new phone. With this new platform, communication including voice, video, chat, conference calls and meetings are integrated, making this the most flexible communication tool to date for the university," Mitchell said. "VoIP trainings will introduce you to new phone capabilities and help you better understand all that is available."

Individuals who are unable to attend an in-person training can view basic how-to videos and instructions at voip.uark.edu.

The VoIP project team anticipates all desk phones will be distributed to campus by the end of March. Existing phone numbers will continue to be transferred to the VoIP system throughout March and April.
