Health Behavior Expert Offers Lecture on March 26

Manoj Sharma, a specialist in health behavior and promotion, will deliver a public lecture at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, in room A21 of the University of Arkansas poultry science department.

This event is being hosted by the Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation.

Sharma is a behavioral health promotion and education professor in the Department of Behavioral and Environmental Health at Jackson State University's School of Public Health.

He will discuss the promotion and improvement of mental health.

"We are excited to welcome Dr. Sharma to our campus. Dr. Sharma has years of experience working in various facets of public health. In addition to several academic appointments, Sharma has worked for government agencies at local, state, and national levels," said Robert Davis, a U of A assistant professor of public health.

Sharma is a prolific researcher. He has published nine books, over 200 peer-reviewed research articles, over 400 other publications and secured funding for over $4 million. His research interests are in developing and evaluating theory-based health behavior change interventions, stress-coping, community-based participatory research, One Health, and integrative mind-body interventions.

Sharma is a public health physician with a medical degree from the University of Delhi and a doctorate in preventive medicine from the Ohio State University and is certified as a Master Health Education Specialist. In his career, spanning more than 30 years, he has trained and taught over 6,000 health professionals including physicians, health education specialists, dietitians, community health nurses, health care administrators, health and development workers, allied health professionals and others.

Sharma will present a more informal talk later that day for students and faculty from 3:30-4:15 p.m. in HPER 318. He'll discuss the development and utilization of his Multi-Theory Model of behavior change.
