RAND Researcher Explores Middle School Algebra

A professor at the Pardee RAND Graduate School is the latest guest lecturer for the University of Arkansas Department of Education Reform.

Andrew McEachin, also a policy researcher in economics, statistics and sociology for RAND Corp., will speak on "Understanding the Effects of Middle School Algebra: A Regression Discontinuity Approach." The lecture will be at noon Friday, March 29.

The hourlong program, in Room 243 of the Graduate Education Building on the University of Arkansas campus, begins at noon and includes a light lunch for those who register online before 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 27. The 2018-19 lecture series is detailed on the website of the department.

McEachin previously had served as an assistant professor of education policy at North Carolina State University. According to RAND's website, "The unifying goal of his research is to generate rigorous policy-relevant evidence to help educators and policymakers in their efforts to raise student achievement and narrow achievement gaps."

His undergraduate degree was in history from Cornell University. He earned a master's in economics and doctorate in education policy at the University of Southern California.
