'Zitrone' M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition by Chase Young Shares a New Perspective Through the Volkswagen Mid-Cab

The School of Art at the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition featuring Chase Young: 'Zitrone'

The exhibition is on display at the SCUL Gallery, located in the School of Art Sculpture Building at 744 S. Hill Ave., Fayetteville. The gallery is open to the public today, Thursday, March 28 from 3-6p.m. and tomorrow, Friday, March 29, 3-7 p.m.

Zitrone is an organized exhibition around the Volkswagen Mid-Cab. The artist describes these vehicles as one of the great automotive lemons of the 20th century. 

Through the use of objects, text, and imagery, this artist-curated exhibition looks to unveil a forgotten and unfamiliar history filled with questions and absurdity. 

The artist used curation as a medium in Zitrone, seeking to re-evaluate the role of museological display in art making practive. By utilizing the methods of presentation associated with the museum and the archiving and dissemination of truth, the show invites the public to reconsider the potential of historical research and preservation as an avenue for artistic expression. 

Young describes his time at the University of Arkansas as hard, but rewarding and values the space he was afforded to explore what his art could become.

After graduation Young plans to start a hand crafted graphite-encased-in-wood pencil business, aimed at serving marking tool connoisseurs. He is also applying to teaching and studio techinician positions in hopes of sharing his knowledge and experience, while continuing his artistic practice.

All are invited to attend the closing reception for Zitrone at the SCUL Gallery at the School of Art Sculpture Building, 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, March 29.
