Sport Law Scholar to Relate His Field to Business Ethics

An attorney who specializes in sport law will deliver a public lecture April 9 at the University of Arkansas on business ethics. Adam Epstein is a professor of Business Law and Regulation in the College of Business Administration at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant.

Epstein will discuss incorporating sport into business ethics. The hour-long talk is to begin at 8:15 a.m. and is set in Room 218 of Willard J. Walker Hall on the Fayetteville campus. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.

"We look forward to hosting professor Epstein on campus. He's a widely respected sport law scholar. Professor Epstein's body of scholarship speaks for itself," said Josh Lens, a clinical assistant professor in the Recreation and Sport Management Program. The Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation of the College of Education and Health Professions is hosting the event.

Epstein is a prolific researcher, having written four textbooks and published 60 legal articles. Notably, the Sport and Recreation Law Association named Epstein a research fellow in 2018. Further, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in 2016 cited Epstein in Berger v. NCAA regarding student athletes and the federal Fair Labor Standards Act.

Epstein also has received recognition for his teaching and leadership. Central Michigan President Bob Davies recently named Epstein the Chippewas' Faculty Athletics Representative, making Epstein the university's faculty liaison to the Athletics Department.

Epstein earned a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Business Administration and Juris Doctor from the University of Tennessee. Prior to entering academia, Epstein represented numerous professional and Olympic athletes, including several national champions in swimming and triathlon. 

Additionally, Epstein will guest-lecture in two RESM classes during his Fayetteville visit. He will also interact with RESM students and HHPR faculty members in several smaller settings.
