'Insider' Discusses Working With Washington

An experienced U.S. government analyst will deliver the last of the 2018-19 series of guest lectures of the University of Arkansas Department of Education Reform on April 12.
Patricia Moore Shaffer, deputy director for Research and Analysis at the National Endowment for the Arts, will speak on "Building a Culture of Evidence in Federal Government: An Insider's View."
The program, in Room 243 of the Graduate Education Building on the Fayetteville campus, begins at noon and includes a light lunch for those who register online before 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10. The 2018-19 lecture series is detailed on its page on the department's website.
Shaffer earned a doctorate in Educational Policy at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, a master's in Curriculum Studies at the University of Toronto and bachelor's at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. She also has worked for NASA and the Office of Management and Budget.
Alongside her government position, she is principal of Shaffer Evaluation Group, a research firm in Alexandria, Virginia, which according to its website evaluates educational initiatives, including teacher education and professional development as well as school district reforms, especially in reading/literacy, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and arts education.
