Medical Humanities RSO to Host Panel on 'How the Humanities Shape My Perspective on Medicine'
The Medical Humanities registered student organization will host a panel on the subject of "How the Humanities Shape My Perspective on Medicine" at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 11, in SCEN 206. Panelists include Dr. Debbie Deere, a Pat Walker Health Center physician who majored in French and Psychology as an undergraduate; Dr. Susan Portis Ferguson, family medicine physician at West Washington County Clinic, who studied English; and Dr. William Wilson, dentist at Sequoyah Dental, who studied Art in addition to Biology.
The panel will also include Joe DeLoach, a third-year medical student at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, who graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2016 with a B.A. in English and biology, and University of Arkansas premedical student Madison Whaley, who is also majoring in English. Whaley will also include advice on how to shape medical school application materials for students majoring in the humanities or social sciences.
The Medical Humanities RSO was established in 2017, to provide students hoping to enter fields in health, medicine, or helping professions with valuable exposure to the ways in which various disciplines in the humanities and social sciences inform, intersect with, and apply to understandings of the medical arts and sciences. The RSO hosts events that encourage dialogue on how cultural, social, ethical, historical, and other related factors affect healthcare.
The event is free and open to the public.
