Research Presentation: 'Adolescents' Written Communication on Facebook'
A new research group on campus, L3T (Linguistics, Language Learning & Technology) makes up a diverse group of faculty from the University of Arkansas whose interests and research projects focus on a variety of areas related to linguistics, applied linguistics and technology.
At their next meeting, Pablo Scoponi, a graduate student of Spanish, will present his research to the group from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 11, in Kimpel Hall 416. The public is welcome and refreshments will be provided. See below for a synopsis of the research presentation:
Adolescents' written communication on Facebook
My research studies how adolescents from Argentina communicate via Facebook written exchanges using their L1 "Río de la Plata" Spanish. The corpus is made up of 90 individuals from three regions of the country (Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Río Negro). The research seeks to identify linguistic patterns shared by these individuals in terms of morphology, syntax, spelling, phonology, lexis and semantics.
