Africa in Action Exhibit Subject of U of A Museum's Final Monthly Speaker Event

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – U of A students Trinity Kai, Eden Leal and Deena Owens will discuss the research they conducted for the Africa in Action: Selections from the University of Arkansas Museum exhibit currently located on the fifth floor of Old Main.
Their talk will be the University of Arkansas Museum’s final Monthly Speaker event for the spring semester. The free public event will be at 7 p.m. is happening Thursday, April 25 in the Arkansas Archeological Survey building, 2475 N Hatch Ave.
The exhibit explores the rich cultural, linguistic and ethnic diversity of the African continent, featuring objects from the highlands of Ethiopia in East Africa to the savanna that stretches across West Africa.
The students were all members of Assistant Professor Janine Sytsma’s “African Art, Museums, and Exhibition Practices” class last fall, which conceptualized and implemented the exhibit. The class used the U of A Museum's ethnology collection as the source for the exhibit. The collection consists of more than 3500 historical and contemporary materials from cultures all over the world.
A special selection of relevant ethnology materials from the Museum's collections will be on display for that night only.
