Customized training can be requested for your office or department.

This week, 900 additional phone numbers transferred to the new Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system.

With 50% of the campus community now using VoIP to make and receive phone calls, IT Services encourages staff and faculty to update their dialing habits and attend training.

To ensure seamless calling between the new VoIP phone service and the old AT&T analog service, individuals should place calls using all 7 digits (e.g. 575-2905). Faculty and staff using the old, analog phone system should continue dialing 9 before entering the 7-digit phone number to call on campus. Individuals who have transferred to VoIP no longer need to dial 9 to place internal or external calls.

Training is available to help you gain a complete understanding of the changes and new features. VoIP training sessions are held each week on Tuesday and Wednesday and cover a wide range of topics. To date, more than 500 users have attended training. In addition to weekly training, several departments have also benefited from more focused training sessions.

"Some of the best and most attended VoIP training sessions have been customized for departments," said Chuck Mitchell, coordinator, professional development, training and outreach. "The new VoIP phone system provides many options never possible before; these training opportunities teach individuals and departments how to use their new phones in the most efficient way."
