Lowdermilk Receives National German Award for Outstanding Senior

U of A senior Caleb Lowdermilk received this year's Delta Phi Alpha Outstanding German Senior Award.

University of Arkansas senior John Caleb Lowdermilk is this year's recipient of the Delta Phi Alpha National German Award for Outstanding Senior.

This $2,500 award is granted annually by the National German Honor Society, Delta Phi Alpha, to a single graduating senior in the United States who has demonstrated excellence in German Studies and has been accepted into a program of graduate study in German. Lowdermilk, a native of Prescott, Arkansas, is a double major in history and German currently completing independent research on the ideological connections between Germany and the United States prior to the political success of Nazism.

During his undergraduate career at the U of A, Lowdermilk has been an active member of the German Club since 2016 and was inducted into Delta Phi Alpha in 2017. He will be studying this summer in Holzkirchen, Germany, before beginning graduate study in German Studies here at the University of Arkansas, where he will pursue his interest in the disintegration of Wilhelmine era society in the early 20th century.

The National German Honor Society, Delta Phi Alpha, seeks to recognize excellence in the study of German and to provide an incentive for higher scholarship. The society aims to promote the study of the German language, literature and civilization and endeavors to emphasize those aspects of German life and culture which are of universal value and which contribute to humanity's eternal search for peace and truth.
