University of Arkansas Summer Literacy Camp Registration Open

Registration is now open for the University of Arkansas' 2019 Summer Literacy Camps.

Camps will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on July 15-16 and July 22 through Aug. 2 in Peabody Hall on the U of A's Fayetteville campus. Camps fill up fast, so it's important to register early.

Students who have completed pre-kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to register for camp.

Literacy camp participants will be pre-assessed on July 15-16 to determine if they need a reading/writing boost or enrichment. Campers are paired with University of Arkansas graduate students and the focus is on learning, through targeted instruction that is enjoyable but rigorous, said Linda Eilers, camp director and a clinical professor in the elementary program at the U of A.

Students receive literacy lessons through individual and personalized interactions, one-on-one, Eilers said. U of A students involved in the program understand the science of reading and use a variety of evidence-based practices with camp participants.

Cost of the program is $89 per child if paid before June 1 and $99 per child after June 1. Visit this link to find out more or register.

The University of Arkansas Clinic for Literacy is based in the College of Education and Health Professions and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction teacher certification programs. The clinic's mission is to provide opportunities for improved achievement in reading and writing. Teacher candidates serve students through analysis of literacy needs and intervention.

The clinic also hosts literacy camps for kindergarten through sixth-grade students during the fall and spring semesters.
