Student Filmmakers Create Installation for the BFF
Commemorating America's Pioneer Female Filmmakers, an exhibit to bring light to often-forgotten female filmmakers of early cinema, was created by four students in communication classes for the Bentonville Film Festival and is free to the public at the 21c Museum and Hotel through May 11.
Students from classes in the Department of Communication at the University of Arkansas have wrapped up a semester of volunteer work that resulted in a video installation that is currently on exhibit at the 21c Hotel and Museum in conjunction with the Bentonville Film Festival.
Using films from the Library of Congress and Kino-Lorber LLC, the exhibit features vignettes of 10 barrier-breaking women directors in early film. This short work highlights the daring and innovative work of just a few of the first female filmmakers.
Students Chenwei Wu, Kelsey Wexler, Tyler Costello and Sydney Mulvenon worked with communication professors Frank Milo Scheide and Margaret Miller Butcher to design, edit and create the installation. The looped video and visual display is free to the public and is available for viewing from 5 a.m. to midnight through Sunday, May 12. All are invited to attend.
