Leave Green: Arkansas Council of the Blind Receives Campus Move-out Donations

University Housing encourages residential students to "Leave Green" by donating items during move-out this week. The items will be collected and used by the Arkansas Council of the Blind.

Cardboard boxes will be in every residence hall for students to drop off unwanted items to make move out smoother and reduce the items left behind. During move out, University Housing works with a local non-profit to make it easier for items to be donated.

In collaboration with the Center for Community Engagement and Residents' Interhall Congress, University Housing selected Arkansas Council of the Blind this year after an application process earlier this spring.

Arkansas Council of the Blind (ACB) is a non-profit that was founded in 1961 to help the visually impaired with resources for school and life. The ACB started a thrift store in Springdale in 2001 to help raise money to provide these resources.

"The product from this will help benefit our local community and help fund our ACB programs across the state of Arkansas. We are grateful to the Housing Department and are proud to be a part of the Northwest Arkansas community," said Vance Brock, the owner of the ACB thrift store.

Each year, the store collects about 100,000 pounds, as well as, an additional 100,000 pounds of pre-sorted clothing which are resold at the ACB thrift store to better serve the community.
