Graduate Certificate in Homeland Security Now Available
Students and professionals can learn to lead security innovation teams in an online certificate program that will be offered for the first time in fall 2019 by the University of Arkansas Operations Management program in the Department of Industrial Engineering.
The Graduate Certificate in Homeland Security is designed for people with a bachelor's degree interested in learning how to mitigate risk. The certificate is especially useful for industry and public safety professionals, including emergency managers, law enforcement and cybersecurity professionals.
Rich Ham, associate director for the Master of Science in Operations Management program, said the certificate is designed to help students adapt to rapidly changing security requirements.
"The new Homeland Security Certificate helps our students deal with new requirements born from the tragedy of the 9/11 attacks," Ham said. "It's critical for operations managers to recognize and integrate these changes into daily processes."
"The certificate follows industry standards in the American Society of Industrial Security Body of Knowledge and provides skills immediately useful to government officials, industry leaders and those working to improve efficiency and security of the nation," Ham said.
The 12-credit-hour program can be completed in two to four eight-week sessions. The courses are designed to prepare students to take the Certified Protection Professional exam through ASIS, an internationally recognized professional institute.
Courses are taught by College of Engineering and adjunct faculty who have industry and government experience in project management. These courses may be applied toward online master's degree programs, also offered by the College of Engineering: Master of Science in Operations Management, Master of Science in Engineering Management and Master of Science in Engineering.
More than 40 online degree programs, certificate programs and additional licensure plans are showcased on the University of Arkansas ONLINE website.
