Malloy Named Study Abroad Director; Long to Retire

Sarah Malloy will be the next director of the Office of Study Abroad and International Exchange. She will assume the role July 1.
Malloy will succeed DeDe Long, who will retire from the University of Arkansas at the end of the month.
Malloy has been with the study abroad office since 2012. She started as a study abroad coordinator and worked her way up to associate director.
Before coming to the U of A, Malloy was a study abroad adviser and residence life coordinator at Hendrix College. She earned a bachelor's degree in Spanish and sociology from the University of Central Arkansas. She also holds a master's degree in higher education from the U of A.
Malloy will be only the second person to lead the study abroad office. As the office's founding director, Long leaves behind a 35-year international education legacy. Her career has been well-celebrated. She was most recently honored with a Life Membership Award from NAFSA: Association for International Educators.
The Graduate School and International Education held a national search to find the most qualified leader for the position.
"We could not be more pleased than to confirm the best person to succeed in this role is Sarah Malloy," said Kim Needy, the unit's dean. "She has everything it takes to continue the tradition of a strong study abroad program for the university."
