U of A Graduate Student Wins Miss Arkansas Competition

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Darynne Dahlem, Miss Apple Blossom, won the Miss Arkansas Competition on Saturday in Little Rock. Dahlem, a University of Arkansas alumna honors student, is pursuing a graduate degree in animal science in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences.

Dahlem, a native of Greenwood, sang "Somewhere" for her talent competition and chose "Know Who You Are" as her social impact statement, a campaign she believes can encourage people to combat addiction by resisting peer pressure.

She earned a $30,000 scholarship and will represent Arkansas in the Miss America competition in September.
