Journalism Alumnus Screens Title IX Documentary on Campus June 23
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The U of A's School of Journalism and Strategic Media is hosting a film screening of IX: The Law of Non-Discrimination at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 23, in Shollmier Hall, room 250 of Vol Walker Hall.
The documentary premiere, taking place on the 47th anniversary of Title IX passing into law, will have a preceding reception at 6 p.m. and a Q&A with the film's director, Denzel Jenkins, and Arkansas artist and curator Raven Cook.
IX is a film that documents the evolution of the anti-discrimination law, Title IX, and some of the lives affected by it. The film also highlights the pioneers who fought and worked hard to bring the law into fruition.
Jenkins, who is from Camden, received his M.A. in journalism with a concentration in documentary film from the School of Journalism and Strategic Media. He was also recently recognized by the Mid-America EMMY Awards/NATAS 2019 for his student documentary Homeless in Boomtown.
Jenkins currently serves as an assistant editor for the University of Arkansas Global Campus.
