Summer Construction Projects Result in Big Changes on Campus

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Summer saw the completion of multiple projects across campus. There are no plans to slow down, however, as the next set of projects are scheduled to begin shortly.

Road improvements

The biggest project of the summer took place on Razorback Road and Maple Street. To help accommodate the growth of campus and traffic, northbound Razorback Road has been widened to two lanes. A traffic light has been added to the Razorback and Maple intersection, and Maple has been repaved.

Leroy Pond has been extended across Razorback Road and will connect to Nettleship Street. Lot 46 across from the Administrative Services Building has been reconfigured. This extension is open, and landscaping in the area is scheduled to be finished in early September.

Residence Halls and Campus buildings

Adohi Residence Halls, formerly referred to as the Stadium Drive Residence Halls, has officially opened for the first set of students. The new residence halls can accommodate 708 students. Work will continue on landscaping and the construction of a parking lot across from the new residence halls.

Areas of Pomfret have undergone some updates over the summer. Rooms on all four floors of Pomfret D-Wing have been renovated and are complete. The existing dining and great rooms have also been updated, and work continues on a new late-night dining venue on the east side of Pomfret which should be completed in September.

Construction on the new Student Success Center is about to begin on the site of the existing School of Social Work. The School of Social Work has been relocated to EJ Ball for the duration of the project, and the demolition of the current building is expected to begin in September with construction beginning shortly after.

The Delta Gamma Sorority has a new house on the corner of Maple Street and Arkansas Avenue which opened earlier this month.

Multiple interior projects were completed this summer, including work on Pat Walker Health Center. This included removing and replacing the east side glass atrium. The Health Center is open and available to students.

Future projects

The long-awaited work on Stadium Drive is scheduled for summer 2020. This will include repaving the road. Some repair work will be completed throughout the current school year until the complete repaving can begin.

Mullins Library will see some changes over the next two years with a renovation of the third and fourth floors. This will improve and modernize the study and collaboration spaces on these floors. Mullins will remain open for the fall 2019 semester with demolition expected to begin over the 2019 winter break.

Construction on the Windgate Art and Design District expansion is scheduled to begin next summer. The expansion will include the construction of a new facility for the School of Art. The project is located in the current Art and Design district, on the southeast corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Hill Avenue.

Other upcoming projects include a new Civil Engineering Research Center, Baseball Development Center, Track Performance Center, Indian Trails Tennis Center, and various work around Old Main. Details of these projects will be made available later this year.
