University Recreation Fall Programming in Full Swing

University Recreation is offering a wide variety of programming for those looking to stay active during the fall semester.

UREC Outdoors, located in HPER 102, is offering three extended adventure trIps this semester. The first extended trip is a canoe expedition on the Buffalo River. The second is a mountain bike/ camping excursion that will highlight bike trails in the Ouachita Mountains, as well as Hot Springs. The third is the annual backpacking trip to the Grand Canyon during Thanksgiving break. UREC Outdoors also has an equipment rental center that includes camping and boating gear, as well as new full suspension mountain bikes. Visit the UREC Outdoors webpage for more information.  

Group fitness classes are currently underway and will run through Thursday, December 12 in both the HPER Building and the UREC Fitness Center, located in the AR Union. University of Arkansas students, staff, and faculty with a UREC membership are eligible to take group fitness classes at no additional cost. University Recreation offers a class that is dedicated soley to faculty/staff members. The class is held every from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Tuesday in the UREC Fitness Center. A UREC membership is not required to participate in this class. To view the entire group fitness schedule, visit the group fitness webpage.

Registration for small group training, also known as UREC RazorFitness, is now open. The first session will start on Monday, Sept. 9, and run through Thursday, Oct. 17. The second session will start on Monday, Oct. 28, and run through Thursday, Dec. 12. Each week builds on the progress made from the previous session. Small group training classes are $36 for students and $48 for UREC members. An addition to the small group classes this semester will be the option to view your heart rate and calories burned during each class through the use of a heart rate monitor and a new system called TEAMBEATS by Technogym. Participants who wish to take advantage of this new technology may purchase a heart rate monitor at the UREC main office, HPER 225, for $80. Participants may also choose to opt out of this new offering and still enroll in the class.

Registration for intramural sports is now open. Badminton, racquetball, table tennis, dodgeball, 3v3 basketbal, spikeball, 2v2 sand volleyball and pickleball are being offered. The Big 5 sports being offered are flag football, volleyball, and soccer. Visit FUSION IM to register.

A club sports recruitment fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, outside of the Arkansas Union as the Union Mall. All 28 clubs will be represented at the fair and will be available to answer questions about each club. 

The UREC Sports Injury Clinic offers free injury evaluations, as well as opportunities for injury prevention, emergency care, and rehabilitation. The clinic is staffed by a licensed athletic trainer and is offered at no cost to all U of A students and UREC members. Visit the clinic webpage for additional information and hours.  

For those interested in learning how to swim, UREC is offering private swim lessons throughout the semester. For more information, please visit the aquatics webpage.

In addition to new programming options, UREC now provides multiple ways to access its facilities. Members have the option to use their University i.d. card, a biometric hand scanner, or a bar code via the UREC app. The UREC app is available on Andriod and iPhone and can be downloaded by searching UREC Arkansas.
