Full Circle Offers Free Cooking Classes
The Jane B Gearhart Full Circle Food Pantry will host a free introductory cooking class beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 11, in Walton Hall.
The six-week, Cooking Matters course is open to all undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Arkansas. The class is free and students do not need to have any previous cooking experience. Space is limited, so participants must sign up through HogSync by Thursday, Sept. 10.
The classes, which run each Wednesday night from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m., give participants the chance to learn cooking basics, understand how to incorporate nutritious food into their diets, manage a budget and utilize common ingredients including items found in the food pantry. Curriculum focuses on everything from understanding major food groups to cooking from scratch on a college budget. For each class, organizers provide food, materials and recipes; students also receive ingredients to recreate meals at home.
Cooking Matters is a national culinary-based, nutrition education program that empowers people to eat healthier and make the best use of their resources and budgets. Full Circle's program is partnered with the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance.
