Make Bike Safety Fun: Throw a Party

Make Bike Safety Fun: Throw a Party
University of Arkansas Office for Sustainability

The third-annual Bike Safety Block Party will be held at the Fulbright Peace Fountain behind Old Main from 1-4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, with a "slow roll" bike ride with free pizza to follow.

This event features free drinks, watermelon and prizes courtesy of the UA Office for Sustainability. Free bike tune-ups and safety checks will be offered by skilled bike mechanics from UREC Outdoors. Representatives from VeoRide bike share, cycling clubs as well as local bike shops will also be on hand to help students and visitors learn more about riding bikes in the area.

This is the first year the block party will include a "slow roll" bike ride and all are welcome to participate. The ride will be escorted by UAPD officers on bicycles. The route is appropriate for all ages and abilities and will avoid steep hill climbs. The ride will start on campus at 4 p.m. and end with a pizza party at Wilson Park at 5 p.m.

This event is just one of the initiatives that have earned the University of Arkansas a designation as a Bicycle Friendly University by the League of American Bicyclists.
