Joshua Byron Smith to Give Invited Talk at Cambridge
Joshua Byron Smith, associate professor of English and director of Medieval and Renaissance Studies, will give an invited talk at the University of Cambridge next week. Smith was invited to the Vitae Sanctorum Cambriae (Lives of the Welsh Saints) conference, hosted by the Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic. This two-day conference serves as a venue to present new research on the Latin lives of Welsh saints, and it grows out of a larger project, Cwlt y Seintiau yng Nghymru / Cult of the Saints in Wales, funded by the United Kingdom's Arts and Humanities Research Council.
Smith has previously worked on the Latin lives of Welsh saints, and in his talk he will examine an incomplete Welsh copy of the legend of St. Brendan, an Irish saint famous for his miraculous sea journeys.
