Study Abroad in Chile

Sarah Jensen, lecturer in the Department of Marketing, will lead a two-week study abroad program to Chile during the May 2020 intersession.

An informational meeting about the Chile program will be held at 4 p.m. today, Oct. 9, in WCOB 326. The program is open to all U of A students.

University of Arkansas students participating in this program, which is now accepting applications, will learn about the country's retail and cultural environment.

The program will travel from May 10 to May 24. Students participating in this study abroad will spend most of that time in Santiago with a few days being spent in the Maule Region.

"Global Retailing has become increasingly prominent as companies look to grow by expanding their marketplaces in other countries," Jensen said. "For retailers that have saturated the domestic market, globalization gives them access to new customers and new capital.  Students will compare the growing retail market in Chile to the well-established U.S. retail market."

Corporate visits on this program will include some of the top five retailers in Chile such as Cencosud, Falabella, La Polar, Ripley and Walmart. Excursions on this program include a day trip to Valparaiso to visit the national history museum, a visit to a vineyard and honey farm, and a trip to an aromatics farm — among others.
