University Libraries Seek Campus Feedback on Trial Databases
The University Libraries are currently running database trials covering multiple disciplines. All are encouraged to use these resources and provide feedback.
ProQuest History Vault Trial offers digitized archival collections in several areas, including Civil Rights and the Black Freedom Struggle in the 20th Century, NAACP Papers, Southern Life (Slavery and the Civil War) and Women's Studies. ProQuest History Vault will be available to the campus community through November 16. A short survey for the database is available online for campus feedback.
ProQuest Historical Newspapers includes archival runs of the Chicago Tribune, the Guardian, the South China Morning Post, the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post. Those looking for Arkansas history can explore the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette - Current and Historical database, which provides the full text of articles from the Arkansas Gazette from 1868-1991, the Arkansas Democrat from 1947-1991 and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Little Rock edition from 1994 to the present. A separate survey is available for feedback regarding this database.
Westlaw Campus Research offers legal news, and business information. Legal materials include federal and state statutes, codes, regulations and case law, as well as some international materials, such as European Union law. Business materials include EDGAR SEC filings and "Company Investigator" — a service that compiles company information from news, directory, government and legal sources. News includes Reuters news services, broadcast transcripts, newspapers and magazines. Westlaw Campus Research will be available to the campus community through December 20. A short survey for the database is available online for campus feedback.
"The University Libraries' goal is to provide content that meets the curriculum and research needs of students and faculty," said Joel Thornton, interim associate dean for Research and Learning. "Feedback on our current trials will aid us as we consider future subscriptions and purchases of archival resources that can be used across disciplines."
