Screening and Panel Discussion of the Netflix Documentary American Factory 美国工厂

As part of the university's International Education Week festivities, the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and the Sam M. Walton College of Business are co-hosting a film screening of the Netflix documentary American Factory at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, in Willard J. Walker Hall 218. 

Directed by Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar, the film documents the reopening of a closed manufacturing plant in Dayton, Ohio under the new ownership and management of Fuyao Glass America, a Chinese company. The film showcases the challenges that American workers and Chinese workers and managers face while operating within two very different cultures.

The documentary captures a fascinating view of how another culture sees American workers, how conflicts arise, but also how relationships can grow and develop in an intercultural environment. Most importantly, it highlights that the global work environment reaches all of us, and not only for those who work with overseas business partners. The official trailer can be found here. 

Join us after the screening for a panel discussion focusing on "Navigating the Multicultural Work Environment" with faculty from the Fulbright College and the Walton College. The panel discussion will focus on the tools students need to apply for excelling in this challenging, yet exciting, work environment.

• J. Laurence Hare; associate professor of history and director of the Fulbright International and Global Studies Program
• Ka Zeng; professor of political science and director of the Fulbright Asian Studies Program
• Moderator – Adriana Rossiter Hofer; associate professor of supply chain management and director of the Walton Global Engagement Office
