New Accessibility Tool for Blackboard Learn

In an effort to improve inclusiveness and access to course content in Blackboard Learn, IT Services is introducing Blackboard Ally. This new built-in tool guides instructors through the process of creating accessible learning materials for all students.

Ally automatically checks course content and files in Blackboard for common accessibility issues, such as missing alt text or headers as well as content that is not formatted for screen readers. Ally also offers feedback on how to improve this content and creates alternative formats such as audio files, electronic braille and screen readable PDFs. This tool also improves readability for mobile devices and tablets by providing alternative formats for files.

Ally will be activated automatically in all Blackboard courses starting in spring 2020. However, instructors can request early access now.

Watch this quick overview video about Ally features available within BlackboardLearn more about Ally in this article on the Teaching Innovation and Pedagogical Support (TIPS) website or email tips@uark.edu.

TIPS provides support and documentation for faculty and instructors using classroom technology, academic technologies and learning management systems. Faculty can request a TIPS consultation on academic technology tools or stop by Gibson Annex Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
