Fall 2019 Peace Corps Prep Certificate Recipients

Two graduating University of Arkansas students have earned Peace Corps Prep program certificates. Students who complete the program have a competitive advantage when applying for Peace Corps service as they are equipped in training and experience, foreign language proficiency, intercultural competency, and professional leadership development.

Natalie Friend and Lane Justus completed all the program requirements and earned their certificates this semester, fall 2019.

Friend is graduating with three majors: international studies, French and political science. She completed the certificate with a focus on the education sector, and she plans to apply to Peace Corps after completing an internship in France.

Justus is graduating with four majors: biological science, Spanish, political science, and Latin American and Latino studies. She completed the certificate with a focus on the environment sector. She has been active on campus and within the community through various mentoring programs, research and as an intern for the American Red Cross.

 "I believe this program equips our students to be successful in both their Peace Corps experience and in their careers," said Curt Rom, associate dean for International Education.  "When they return from their volunteer assignments, they will be equipped to be leaders in their professions and communities."

Rom co-hosted a graduation ceremony and luncheon last month for the two students and the Returned Peace Corps Volunteer campus network along with Andrew Van Lew, coordinator of the Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Campus Network, and Alshaatha Alsharji, the Peace Corps Prep program advisor.
