Miller Gives Keynote Address at Behavioral Health Conference
Mike Miller joins other conference attendees in Qatar.
Michael T. Miller, professor of higher education and former dean of the College of Education and Health Professions, recently delivered the keynote address to the Second International Conference on Behavioral Health in Doha, Qatar.
The conference, attended by 500 mental and behavioral health professionals as well as a number of graduate students from Qatar University, focused on individual and community behaviors that impact how individuals approach their own health-related decisions.
Miller's keynote address, which opened the conference, was titled Community Expectancy and Student Mental Health: The Role of Education and Social Expectations.
"The keynote really focused on all of the informal interactions that impact an individual in determining what is valued," Miller said. "We've been working on developing this theory for the past five years, applying it mostly to attitudes and beliefs about postsecondary education, but it is also very fitting for studying the creation of beliefs about behavioral health."
The conference was sponsored by the National Behavioral Healthcare Center and Qatar University.
