Thomas Named Manager of University Communications at University Relations

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – John Thomas, former assistant communications director in Razorback Athletics and specifically for the Arkansas baseball team, has joined the University Relations staff as manager of university communications, taking over for Steve Voorhies, who retired in August 2019.

"John brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and creativity from his years of experience in media relations and public relations," said Amy Schlesing, executive director of strategic communications. "John hit the ground running this week and we are excited to have him on our team."

Thomas has more than 10 years of experience in the communications field, having worked at the University of Florida, Auburn University, and most recently, the U of A in each of their respective athletics offices.

He began his career as a media relations intern in the Razorback Athletics department in 2011 and has been at the forefront of the ever-changing media and communications landscape throughout his time in three different athletics departments.

Thomas was able to return to his alma mater in 2016, where he oversaw all publicity and communications for the Arkansas baseball team, including both runs to the 2018 and 2019 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.

As manager of university communications, Thomas will lead media relations efforts for the university as well as develop and support university-level communications across campus. He joined the University Relations office on Dec. 9. 

Thomas is a 2011 graduate of University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism.
