Application Period Now Open for 2020-21 Middle East Studies Scholarships
The King Fahd Center for Middle East Studies at the University of Arkansas is now accepting applications for undergraduate scholarships for the 2020-21 academic year.
The King Fahd Center grants competitive scholarships ranging between $5,000 and $10,000 to undergraduate students majoring in Middle East Studies (MEST) who have demonstrated serious commitment to study and excellence in their coursework and scholarship. Full or partial scholarships are granted for one academic year beginning in the fall semester, and are renewable for up to three academic years.
Applicants must have:
- A declared major in Middle East Studies
- Minimum 3.25 overall GPA, and a GPA of 3.5 in MEST courses
- Attainment of sophomore status (minimum 30 credit hours) by the beginning of fall 2020
- A two to three page Statement of Purpose indicating the course of study and academic ambitions
- Two faculty recommendation letters, at least one affiliated with the MEST program; please consult the MEST Directory for eligible faculty recommenders. Transfer students may solicit letters from professors at their prior institution who can speak to their interest and academic potential.
Students are encouraged to apply for funding in the upcoming academic year if they will be undergraduate sophomores with a minimum of 30 credit hours.
Application materials are due by Feb. 1. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
The King Fahd Center also offers $1,500 Study Abroad Scholarships for students attending programs in the Middle East and North Africa. Applications and more information are available at the Middle East Studies funding page.
