Attorney, Author, Recovery Advocate Brian Cuban to Speak at Law School
Join the U of A School of Law for a presentation by Brian Cuban, author of "The Addicted Lawyer: Tales of The Bar, Booze, Blow, and Redemption." This master storyteller will present "Driven: Tales of Getting Back on the Road" at noon Tuesday, Jan. 28, in the E.J. Ball Courtroom on the second floor of Waterman Hall. The event is free, and all are welcome.
Cuban, the younger brother of Dallas Mavericks owner and entrepreneur Mark Cuban, is a Dallas-based attorney, author and addiction recovery advocate. He speaks passionately about how the pressure of law school exacerbated his journey into addiction. His compelling personal struggle with body dysmorphia, alcoholism, drug addiction and the road back to redemption and wellness is applicable to anyone battling external demands and stress.
He has been in long-term recovery from alcohol, cocaine and bulimia since April 2007, and he speaks and writes extensively about these subjects.
Cuban has spoken at colleges, universities, conferences, non-profit and legal events across the United States and in Canada. He has appeared on prestigious talk shows such as the Katie Couric Show and media outlets around the country. His columns have appeared and he has been quoted on these topics on CNN, Fox News, The Huffington Post, Above the Law, The New York Times and in online and print newspapers around the world. His first book, "Shattered Image: My Triumph Over Body Dysmorphic Disorder," chronicles his first-hand experiences living with, and recovering from, Body Dysmorphic Disorder and 27 years of eating disorders.
