Music Department Celebrates Black History Month With Inspirational Chorale Recital Wednesday

The University of Arkansas Inspirational Chorale and the Black Music Students Association will sponsor a recital of music written by black composers in Western art, gospel, jazz and spiritual music at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, in the Jim and Joyce Faulkner Performing Arts Center.
The concert features Tennessee State University's Patrick Dailey, countertenor, and the University of Arkansas' own Jeffrey Allen Murdock, tenor, along with U of A student Mickel Gordon as collaborative pianist.
This recital will feature an all-black company of students from among the graduate and undergraduate students in the Department of Music, as well as a performance by the newly formed "Black Voices of Arkansas."
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to give our black students a voice on such a platform as this," Murdock said. "There is so much music that has been contributed by African American composers, and it's exciting to have impassioned black students to share this music with our campus and our community!"
