U of A Announces Schedule for Black History Month 2020

The University of Arkansas will celebrate Black History Month with a slate of events in February, from an interactive film screening to a voter town hall.

A Black Heritage Recital will kick off the month on Feb. 5, featuring music written and performed by African American composers and students. Other notable events include a First Friday celebration with music, trivia and voter registration; a diversity networking mixer; a soul food dinner and panel discussion; a dialogue on African American hair; and a screening of Harriet, a film about Harriet Tubman.

"Black History Month is an important opportunity for all to learn about, acknowledge and celebrate the vibrant culture of African Americans and their unique contributions to our country's history," said Yvette Murphy-Erby, vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion. "We look forward to an exciting month of events."

Offices across campus are sponsoring BHM events, including the Multicultural Center, the Office for Diversity and Inclusion, the Black Alumni Society and numerous academic colleges.

The schedule of events is available on the Office for Diversity and Inclusion website.
