Discover Taiwan During This Week's Holcombe Global Series

The presentation starts at 8 p.m. today in Holcombe Hall's living room.

The evening features a short presentation followed by a sampling of some common Taiwanese dishes: sweet potato balls, braised pork rice, popcorn chicken and bubble tea.

Taiwan is one of the most densely populated areas in the world with more than 23 million people within a landmass roughly the same size as Belgium. One of the most popular activities in Taiwan is karaoke, or, as they call it, Karaoke Television (KTV).

"Taiwan is safe and convenient. There are a lot of things you can do. You can go to night markets, go hiking, go to the beach, go to an exhibition or have exotic food with your friends and family. You will never get bored," said presenter and student Ai-Ling Lu.

"For an ocean lover, Taiwan is like paradise because we are pretty close to beaches. I spent all my childhood beside sea.

Taiwan, officially the Republic of China, is a state in East Asia. Taiwan is an island off the coast of China, and is neighbored by the Philippines to the south and Japan to the northwest.

"A lot of people don't know about this small island in Asia, but it's a must to get a big picture of how modern East Asia looks," Lu said, "During the event, we would like to have people experience a day in the life as a Taiwanese college student. They are going to experience four aspects of life in Taiwan, including food, transportation, convenience and entertainment."

This event is open to all within the university and Fayetteville community. Attendees are encouraged to bring friends and engage with the presenters after the presentation.

Global Series is an on-going program, and Taiwan is kicking off the event series for the spring semester.
