Workshop for Graduate Students to Explore Academic and Non-Academic Career Paths
The Office of Graduate Student Support is hosting back-to-back discussions on developing a career path you can love. Experts who have charted a range of paths to professional success will address students, and sweet treats will be provided. The discussions begin at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at the Brewer Family Hub, 123 W. Mountain St.
The first session from 2-3 p.m. features Cynthia Sides, director of Innovation and Industry Partnerships for the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation. Her message, "What's Love Got to Do with It: Following Your Passion," will cover ways to identify career options that reflect your passions as well as details about the PAAD program and academia as a potential vehicle for industry partnerships.
The second session, from 3:30-4:30 p.m., will include a panel discussion with members of the Entrepreneurship & Innovation community, focusing on "Whole Lotta Love: Stepping Beyond Academia." The conversation will focus on alternative careers, from entrepreneurship to industry to freelance writing and consulting. Crucial to being successful in the alternative-academic job market is knowing how the skills you developed in your graduate degree transfer to various professional realms.
