Music's Free Guest Artist Concert Series Continues With February Performances
The Guest Artist Concert series in the Department of Music continues this month with two outstanding musicians giving performances in Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
Oboist Darci Gamerl will be appearing at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24 with a guest appearance by cellist David Downing and the U of A's own Theresa Delaplain.
Gamerl is an instructor at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and a member of the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra and South Dakota Symphony. She is a frequent guest artist and instructor across the country and is a founding member of I the Siren—ensemble-in-residence at UN-O. The concert is free to the public.
Then, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, tuba and euphonium player Matt Shipes will perform. Shipes is an assistant professor of low brass at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, and an alumnus of the University of Arkansas ('10).
He played with the United States Air Force Band in Washington, D.C., at ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, for former presidents, and foreign leaders. This concert will also be free to the public.
