University Celebrates International Peace Corps Week
The University of Arkansas Graduate School and International Education is hosting a celebration of Peace Corps Day from noon-1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 6, in the Holcombe Hall classroom.
The first week of March is international Peace Corps Week commemorating President John F. Kennedy's establishment of the Peace Corps on March 1, 1961.
The event will consist of a panel discussion with a selected number of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCV) about the challenges and rewards of serving in the Peace Corps. Responsible volunteering and ethical storytelling will be among topics discussed. The discussion will be informative, rich, and beneficial to anyone who is interested in joining the Peace Corps after graduation, or anyone interested in global aid work and service. Furthermore, UA students will also have an opportunity to engage with RPCV's with questions at the end of the panel discussion.
"Many U of A students, staff and faculty have participated in the Peace Corps and contributed meaning service," said Curt Rom, Associate Dean for International Education. "The UA Peace Corps day event is a chance for sharing their stories and for engaging students in ideas of global service."
