Flynn to Host Archiving Your History Event at Public Library
Via Fayetteville Public Library

Join Kara Flynn, University Libraries research and educational services archivist, for a hands-on Archiving Your History event at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at the Fayetteville Public Library. This event is free and open to the public, and registration is required.

The class is being offered based on feedback received from a previous archiving session at the public library presented by Flynn and Lori Birrell, associate dean of Special Collections for the University Libraries

"As a result, I developed this class, which will focus on applied skills by providing practical tips on planning your archival project, determining what to save, organizing your records, and strategies for preserving and storing your materials," said Flynn. "While the overall focus of the class is on archiving paper-based materials, information on basic digital archiving will be included. My hope is that this session will help people tackle their own family history or community organization preservation projects."

Attendees are encouraged to bring materials they would like to preserve — no more than one small box full.

Those who want to learn more about archiving also have the opportunity to attend a three-part workshop in June to be held at Drake Airfield. Flynn and Virginia Siegel, Arkansas Folk and Traditional Arts coordinator, will lead a Community Archivist Workshop series through the U of A Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
