SHE Festival Brings Women in Contemporary Music Concert
The Department of Music and Department of Theatre are teaming up during this month's SHE Festival to present the Women in Contemporary Music Concert with the Arkansas Soul Band at the UA Black Box Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10.
The program will be paying tribute to some of the most extraordinary female songwriters and artists of the last fifty years. Students will be performing music by such legends as Dolly Parton, Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Pat Benatar, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and more.
The space of the Black Box Theatre will make the event that much more inclusive as it brings performers and audience members together in a way larger venues cannot reproduce.
"We're thrilled to work with the Department of Theatre and all our talented students to produce this show. It's a wonderful chance to not only highlight significant women in the music industry but also have our students experience performing contemporary music in an intimate setting with a pop concert feel," said Jake Hertzog, instructor of guitar.
The UA Black Box Theatre is located at 2 East Center Street on the Fayetteville Square. The concert is free to the public and all are welcome to attend.
