The Arkansas Chapter of the Southern National Association of Teachers of Singing had their spring conference at the University of Arkansas Feb. 28-29. The biggest part of the conference were the singing competitions held over the course of the two-day gathering.

Around 176 students participated in competitions for different level categories in classical voice and musical theatre and 34 teachers from around the state brought students to participate.

U of A students from the studios of Christopher MacRae and Moon-Sook Park in the Department of Music made an impressive showing with 16 competing, and 10 winning or placing in seven categories.

The mission of the National Association of Teachers of Singing is to encourage the highest standards of the vocal art and of ethical principles in the teaching of singing; and to promote vocal education and research at all levels, both for the enrichment of the general public and for the professional advancement of the talented.
