Second Annual Fayetteville Jazz Festival Goes Virtual

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Due to COVID-19, the University of Arkansas Community Music School and the Institute for Creative Music are hosting the second annual Fayetteville Jazz Festival this year as a virtual event.
All festival events are free and will be streamed from the Institute for Creative Music's YouTube channel.
Featured guest artists include trumpet player Garrett Schmidt (Maria Schneider Orchestra, Glenn Miller Orchestra, The Who) and saxophonist Alisha Pattillo (Alisha's Quartet, H-Town Collective, Joe Sample).
On April 24, festival director and University of Arkansas percussion instructor Chris Teal will interview Garrett Schmidt as part of a listening party for Garrett's latest album release, Prairie Tales, followed by a performance masterclass with University of Arkansas trumpet and jazz undergraduates Erick Amaya and Aaron Smelley.
The following day brings world premiere performance workshops from Northwest Arkansas musicians including saxophonist Alisha Pattillo, pianist Matt Nelson, and University of Arkansas senior guitar instructor Jake Hertzog as well as national and international musicians Lauren Lee, Matthew Golombisky, Nick Finzer, and Doug Stone. Each musician will premiere a combination performance and educational workshop recorded in the intimate environment of their home studio.

- 2-2:50 p.m. — Performance workshop by Matthew Golombisky (bass/composition, Buenos Aires, Argentina)
- 3-3:50 p.m. — Performance workshop by Nick Finzer (trombone, Denton, Texas)
