Valuing New Ventures (Special Topics): New Finance Course Available in Fall
To meet the demand in the job market and to enhance students' marketability and ability to secure and manage capital at all stages of a firm's life, the Finance Department in the Sam M. Walton College of Business just completed the design of a new course to be first offered in Fall 2020.
Special Topics FINN 410V (Valuing New Ventures) will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30-4:45 p.m., and will be taught by Cash Acrey, clinical assistant professor of finance.
This course will provide students with experience using the valuation methods of Venture Capital and Angel firms. The course is appropriate for students who wish to begin careers in valuing new ventures with VCs and Angel funds, for investors interested in new ventures as an asset class, for members of startup teams who focus on acquiring and managing capital, and for R&D and innovation teams within existing large firms. The course will also add valuable techniques to those performing private equity valuations of growing firms or firms facing large strategic options, even if those firms are not technically startups.
