CMS Jazz Camp

The U of A Community Music School, in partnership with the Institute for Creative Music, announces an intergenerational Jazz and Creative Music Camp.

The event will take place June 22-26 via private livestream videos, small group meetings, and prerecorded videos. Originally scheduled for in-person instruction, camp has moved online due to COVID-19.

The camp is open to all instruments and levels. No jazz experience required. Students are placed into small groups based on ability level and learn classic jazz melodies and solos by ear. The camp also covers strategies for practicing performance, learning songs, style, improvisation, transcription, and composition.

Camp faculty include internationally acclaimed professional musicians and educators. Camp director Chis Teal says, "We're thrilled to bring in world-class performers and educators for this camp. Everyone involved is at the top of their respective instrument/voice and offers a unique perspective on learning jazz language and the experience of playing at a professional level."

CMS and IfCM are happy to offer their first ever sliding scale tuition discounts for families affected by COVID-19. A limited number of free enrollments are also be available. If you are interested in sponsoring a student or making a tax-exempt donation to the program, email Chris Teal at chris@ifcmusic.org. The Institute for Creative Music is an IRS recognized 501(c)3 organization.

The Community Music School is the outreach unit of the Department of Music in the William J. Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.
