Live at the Five and Dime Presents Er-Gene Kahng Tonight

The third season of the "Live at the Five & Dime" outdoor concert series continues online Wednesday, May 20, with Er-Gene Kahng playing both parts of Jean-Marie Leclair's "Sonata for Two Violins."

The musical and technological feat of recording oneself playing both parts of a piece is an exciting first for the "At Home" version of this concert series.

Kahng is professor of violin in the Department of Music at the University of Arkansas. Her recent recording of Arkansas native Florence Price's Violin Concertos led to lengthy articles in The New Yorker and The New York Times and a review on NPR.

Alex Ross, in The New Yorker, wrote "Kahng's new recording of the Violin Concertos … is Price's best outing on disk to date. Kahng plays the solo parts with lustrous tone and glistening facility."

Kahng is concertmaster of the Arkansas Philharmonic and is a member of the Chineke! Orchestra which presents standard orchestral repertoire along with the works of Black and minority composers both past and present.

This year's series is beginning with short concerts online instead of on the Bentonville square. New concerts are posted each Wednesday at 5 p.m., but you can tune in anytime to enjoy this season's past performances by faculty and student musicians from the U of A's Department of Music and their friends.

Live at the Five & Dime at Home is a collaboration between the Department of Music, the Walmart Museum, and Downtown Bentonville Inc.
