The Community Music School is excited to be holding virtual jazz camps this year for adults and for youth in grades 7-12. The camps will be held June 22-26 through Zoom meetings, YouTube live videos, and IfCM prerecorded videos.

Any students wanting to participate must have at least one year of experience with their instrument or voice instruction. The adult jazz camp is open to anyone 18 years and older with at least one year of experience on their instrument or voice instruction and both groups will be held in three different categories:

  • Beginning Track (Level 1): No audition or previous jazz experience required.
  • Intermediate Track (Level 2): Students/Adults should know at least 1 jazz blues or similar song (16-bar or 32-bar sectional form) and be able to perform the melody, chord arpeggios, and improvise 2 or more choruses without external references like sheet music.
  • Advanced Track (Level 3): Students/Adults should know several jazz songs and be able to perform the structural material as well as improvise on those songs without external references like sheet music.

"In the time of social distancing, we are excited to stay connected to our community through online learning. We care about the emotional wellbeing and growth of our students, and the personal attention each student receives separates us from other online learning opportunities." said Nastassja Riley, lessons coordinator for the Community Music School.

Spaces are also still available for those students wanting to attend the virtual Young Artist String Camp being held June 28-July 3.
